Samiya Shamsur (she/her) is a section writer for Hard News. She believes the role of a journalist is to share the hard truth so that society is able to learn, benefit, and grow. Samiya is eager to step into the role of a student journalist with The Survey to fulfill her passion of pursuing knowledge and spreading it with the community while combating misinformation. She consumes journalistic writing through articles and social media posts from The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Al Jazeera. Samiya also enjoys fantasy - her favorite series is Harry Potter. Beyond The Survey, she serves as Secretary of Society Of Women Engineers (SWE) and Short Film competitor for Tech’s Brooklyn Muslim Inter-Scholastic Tournament (MIST) Team. In her future, Samiya is interested in exploring engineering, architecture, and journalism. This year, Samiya is ready to join a group of student journalists to expand her skillset as a writer.
