About
Hard News
The Hard News section of our paper works to discuss current events and how they affect students, Tech academic policies, and student government issues. As a section, we seek to inform the student body about changes being made within Brooklyn Tech, and how those will affect their daily lives. Additionally, we survey students and staff in order to represent all perspectives within the Tech community.
Opinions
In the Opinions section, we let our writers indulge their passions with the liberty to discuss what matters to them- from issues plaguing Brooklyn Tech, the United States, or the globe. (And of course, we always have a flair for the controversial.) We are committed to fostering healthy and necessary debates about relevant topics, ranging from politics to pop culture. As an avenue to share our students’ beliefs and opinions, we seek to open up discussions in Tech and the greater community.
Social Media
The Social Media Team focuses on promoting The Survey’s platform and growing our online presence within the Tech community. We share information on new publications, our editorial board, and various events happening within Brooklyn Tech to keep the student body engaged and informed. The Social Media Team demonstrates their creativity through photography, videos, and different modes of design used to put together posts and announcements.
Features
The Features section gives readers a look into what is happening here and now at Tech. We outline both the daily life and stories from within our school community, as well as compelling articles about teachers, Tech alumni, and current events that are of interest to readers. To get the latest inside scoop, we interview everyone from Tech alumni to New York mayoral candidates: our favorite part of the journalistic process. Whether we are discovering Tech secrets or profiling fascinating individuals, the Features section always seeks to publish articles that Brooklyn Tech can’t wait to get their eyes on.
STEM
The STEM section covers everything science-related at Tech. In a school that is heavily STEM-oriented, there is always something for The Survey to be reporting on. Whether it be centered around the pandemic or the robotics team, there are plenty of clubs, teachers, and alumni fostering new breaking stories and setting records daily. We strive to keep the student body informed on how the scientific world affects our community.
Sports
The Sports section tackles all things Tech sports. We want to keep Tech students up-to-date on how our school’s teams are doing in their seasons, how they are looking to improve, and what our players’ future plans are to continue their athletic careers in college and beyond. We hope to inform the Tech community about high school sports so that more people are interested and can show their support for our teams.
Arts & Entertainment
Arts & Entertainment is your daily dose of the vibrant culture at Tech. From arts to fashion, music to film, there is so much this section covers. We write reviews, get student opinions on pop-cultural hot topics like the Met Gala and/or albums, and showcase the talents of our peers through a plethora of mediums, including fashion and art. Look out for our upcoming podcasts and “Best Of” features; if exploring creativity through journalism sounds interesting to you, join Arts!
Layout
The Layout section is responsible for creating the look of the paper by formatting articles, designing the print issue, and using different types of media to make the paper look as interesting and aesthetically appealing as possible. A good student newspaper not only necessitates well-written articles, but it also needs to visually grab the reader’s eyes. Additionally, in collaboration with the Social Media section, our team works to manage, design, and upkeep the website for The Survey so people can access our articles both physically and digitally.
