Captain America: The Winter Soldier Movie Review

By Amy Chen

Marvel has just released another breathtaking sequel this April about America’s first avenger: Captain America. Despite the first movie’s mediocre reviews, the sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier managed to become one of Marvel’s best superhero films yet.

One thing that makes this movie so great is its cast. Chris Evans reprises his role as Captain America, or Steve Rogers, while Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson reprise their roles as Natasha Romanoff, or Black Widow and Nick Fury, respectively. The Winter Soldier also introduces Captain America’s new sidekick, Falcon, played by Anthony Mackie.

The Winter Soldier’s most memorable character is, of course, Captain America. Evans’s portrayal of the Captain is extremely believable and his action scenes are the most eye-catching. He maintains his role as a likeable character throughout the whole film as the audience continues to root for him.

Perhaps the most compelling action scene in the entire movie is Captain America’s battle with a big group of metal-armed workers inside an elevator, which highlights the Captain’s intelligence and agility.

Johansson’s portrayal of the Black Widow is also unforgettable. Her scenes with Evans are very enjoyable and funny and allow for some big character developments. The relationship between the two characters is built on sarcasm and compassion.

Falcon is a breakthrough role for Anthony Mackie. The character is a good addition to the movie as he demonstrates qualities like loyalty, courage and humor.

The only fault within the movie is its dialogue during crucial scenes, which is difficult to understand for those who have not seen the prequels, Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers. Despite this, The Winter Soldier is definitely a must-watch for Marvel and superhero fans.
