The Girls Varsity Basketball season flew by this year and is coming to an end. Consisting of eleven juniors and seven seniors, the team is led by its two co-captains, Rachel Gray ’15 and Kylie Hung ’14.
The season started off quite shaky with Tech losing its first three games. First, Tech was defeated by Wingate Educational Campus with a score of 46-31. In its second game, Tech went up against Clara Barton High School and lost with a final score of 51-38. In a third game, Tech lost to Canarsie Educational Campus with a score of 50-22.
After experiencing three defeats, the team trained vigorously and strived to make up for the losses. Tech faced Paul Robeson Campus High School, Prospect Heights Campus, and Wingate Educational Campus and defeated all three.
Perhaps the most rewarding part of the team’s comeback streak was when Tech had to face Wingate Educational Campus for the second time. Tech beat them with a score of 43-42. Though the defeat was narrow, the team showed a massive amount of improvement from the previous game.
Jenny Zhao ’15 said that what really helped the team was “practicing foul shots, layups, and performing slides down the court in defense position from 3:30 to 5:30.”
The team is currently third in the Brooklyn A East division, behind Clara Barton and Canarsie Educational Campus. It has two more games scheduled in the next week, one on Tuesday against Canarsie and the other on Thursday against Franklin K. Lane Campus.
