The Tech wrestling team’s season has just begun. This year, the team is led by Camilo Gaitan Parra ’14, who has been on the team for a while and is excited to start his final wrestling season at Tech.
The team is off to a great start, winning first place against Martin Luther High School and second place in the tournament at Madison Square Garden during Thanksgiving break. Recently the wrestling team competed against Midwood and dominated with a score of 71-7.
Many students want to know who the top wrestlers are or who consistently receives the most points. There is no definite answer because each wrestler contributes to wins. Each player is equally important, although some wrestlers have more experience.
The reason behind the success of the team is no mystery – they have some of the most dedicated athletes in the school. The wrestling team has practice from 3:30 to 6:15 six days a week. With vigorous training, many believe that the wrestling team will claim first place during finals. The scores clearly show that they will at the very least qualify.
Each wrestling match is important, but is essential that the team does well during the semi finals where the winning team can enter finals with another high school.
Tech’s wrestling has their eyes on the prize. Finals, which is the most important match, is where the two top teams have a match together to determine the ranking in the Public School Athletic League. The team’s goal is to reach finals and to be the best in the city. And with its stellar record, there is no doubt that this goal with come to fruition.
