Brooklyn Tech Track & Field Team Dominate At Brooklyn Borough Championships
Both boys and girls teams swept boroughs and won their respective championships this past weekend on February 12th. The team competed against other Brooklyn high schools at The Armory Track & Field Center in Manhattan. It was an exciting morning of fast times and team work.
The boy’s team dominated the 1600m run with Evan Sherman ‘19, Isaac Stamper ‘19, Tommy Nunez placing first, second and third . The boy’s team swept the pole vault event as well with Konstantin Van Schendel ‘19, Merlin Beaufils ‘19 and Yehia Ellis ‘19 placing first, second, and third . The team placed third in the 4x800m and 4x400m relays. Other top scores were Kino Cheltenham ‘17 who won second in the 600m dash, Leo Houts ‘17 who placed third in the 3200m, Lucas Christie ‘18 place third in shot put and Astor Meredith Goujon placed 2nd in the High jump. It was a good day for the boy’s team.
The girl’s team dominated 3000m,1000m,1500m, 4x800m relay, and 1500 m race walk events. Lucinda Doogan ‘20 won the 3000m followed by Juliet Gottfried ‘19 and Xiao Jie ‘18. Aziza Chigatayeva ‘18 won the 1000m followed shortly after by Kelly Wong ’19, Juliet Gottfried won the 1500m followed by Aziza Chigatayeva and Lucinda Doogan. The 4x800m placed second, third, and sixth. Ziyuan Zhu ‘19 won the 1500m race walk. Carmen Tang and Anu Akil, both class of ‘18, won the pole vault and shot put respectively. Marly Banatte ‘17 took third in the triple jump. The team was exceptional at boroughs.
