RKim’17 After a year-long hiatus, Ed Sheeran has returned with two new singles for fans to listen to.
On December 13th, 2015, Ed Sheeran announced on social media that he would be taking a break from all of his online accounts, stating, “…I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes so I’m taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed.” Fans were left unexpectedly with sadness and shock, but joyfully held onto the idea of his 3rd album, in which he described to be the best thus far.
This January of 2017, Sheeran returned to all social media and instantly started off the new year with new music.
“Castle on the Hill” and “Shape of You” have already had major success on music charts and streams/downloads. “Castle on the Hill” is nostalgia in a song; it is reflective of Sheeran’s experiences and memories of his past childhood friends and lover from his hometown. Many have described this song to be one that they can listen to in 20 years and still hold the same love for the lyrics and melody. On the other hand, “Shape of You” exhibits a different style of music than what Sheeran has shown through his past two albums. He incorporates both his classic acoustic guitar as well as electronic beats to create a more bold melody that displays more of a pop tune.
Sheeran has definitely been busy getting back on track with promotions and interviews on different radio stations and television broadcasts, such as the Graham Norton Show and SiriusXM. There has even been talk of tour dates for upcoming concerts that fans have been waiting for.
Sheeran has surely started the year off strong with his new music. He announced that his upcoming album, ÷ (Divide), will be released on March 3rd, 2017.
