Mid November marked the end of a solid season for the boys and girls bowling team. The boy’s team ended up going 11-1 while the girl’s team went 12-0 in the regular season.
The boys varsity team clinched first seed in the playoffs, and ended up winning against Bayside High School in their first playoff game. However the team fell short and lost against Susan Wagner, being knocked out in the round of 16.
Christopher Vergara’ 18 offers his thoughts, “We became a very close family this year and the experience was simply unforgettable. This was a rebuilding year that I believe will lead to future success for the whole team. We look forward to taking the next step and win the championship.”
The girl’s team made it very far, going undefeated during the regular season and making great leaps in the playoffs. In the playoffs, the team won against Chelsea Career and Technical Education, and proceeded to beat Fiorello H Laguardia 3-0 at Melody Lanes. Next, the team won against Staten Island Tech, and was able to advance to the semi finals. This was where the journey ended, as they were defeated by New Dorp at Jib Lanes.
Ashley Zhen’18 describes her experience, “I have high hopes for the team’s performance and character and I hope the sport will continue to grow next year and even in the years after I graduate.”
This year has undoubtedly been one of the best for the girl’s bowling team. Becoming semi finalists has definitely been a great accomplishment and a step in the right direction for the future of the team.
