After winning all ten matches in the 2013 season, boy’s tennis is looking to continue its reign as the undefeated division champions. Although the team lost to Benjamin Cardozo High School in the second round of the playoffs last year, they are back and are looking forward to an unstoppable season.
Captain Robert Godkin ’14 says, “I’m looking forward to spending my last year with my teammates and trying our best to make it to the City Championships. I’m looking forward to help the team go undefeated once again in the division, and finish the season strong with the playoffs.”
Speaking of the team’s goals for the season, Captain Godkin ’14 says, “Our team is still strong and will make a big impact on the other city teams. Hopefully we can make the city finals and see what else we can do at that point.”
The team has had a strong start so far, with a record of 5-0. They were able to crush Lincoln, Midwood, and Madison.
The season began on March 18th, with the first game against Lincoln High School. In this first game held in Fort Greene Park, Tech cruised to win five of the five matches and lost only two sets.
Tech’s hot streak continued as they also won all five matches against Midwood High School. William Trang ’15 had a strong performance and did not give up a single set to Daniel Gorlik ’14 from Midwood.
In the third match, Tech cooled down a little bit, losing the first singles match (10-6), but continued to win the rest of the Ssngles matches and both of the doubles matches against James Madison High School.
Their fourth match, against Leon Goldstein High School, was postponed. However, the team won its fifth and sixth matches, against Fort Hamilton and Lincoln respectively, with final scores of 5-0.
In their next game, Tech will face Midwood High School again in Fort Greene Park on April 8th, and they hope to dominate this match just as they have their previous ones. Tech will be playing to continue its winning streak this season and to keep its title as undefeated division champions.
