Gateway to Medicine Major Overhaul
By Andrew Au Yeung
Gateway to Medicine is the only four year major. Students apply as rising freshman to join it. However, this will no longer be the case.
Current sophomores in Gateway to Medicine will be the last class that participates in this major. As of 2012, Tech has not accepted any new students into the major.
According Thomas Evangelist, the Assistant Principal of Chemistry, the major is tentatively slated to be split and merged with the Chemistry and Biological Sciences major to form Gateway to Chemistry and Gateway to Biology. As a result, Gateway will adopt the two year system. Though, when and if this will occur is unknown.
Assistant Principal of Biology Kelly Lovelett stated that even she is not certain what the overall changes are going to be. However, she will be attending a meeting to discuss the Gateway program in the next few months. As of now, it seems that this unique major will not be the same for future students.
